Green Street Garage RFP

In response to the City of Ithaca's Green Street Garage RFP, and working with Newman Development, Visum Development, T.G. Miller Engineers, Taitem Engineering, and Purcell Construction, WPD redeveloped the Green Street Garage site to propose a new mixed use building with a range of market, workforce, and affordable housing options above a ground floor retail center with strong connections to the surrounding walkable street scape.

Furthermore, WPD designed a linear park and pedestrian plaza intending to link the urban fabric of Downtown Ithaca with the extraordinary nature that surrounds the city. By reactivating these underused spaces, WPD extends the pattern of open spaces along Green Street and further increases the pedestrian realm.

The project is designed to draw passing pedestrians into the linear park through the creation of a series of open and closed spaces sheltered by shade loving street trees. Use of interactive LED screens and on-building projections further create an active and dynamic space  that markets and enhances the use of  Cinemapolis, the only independently owned art movie theatre in the Finger Lakes Region. The pedestrian plaza next to City Hall is dual use in function: although acting as a service entrance to the tenants of the newly proposed Green Street mixed use development, the plaza can additionally be closed off and used as an open space for festivals and other public events.
