Yamila Fournier | Project Manager / Horticultural Consultant­

Yamila Fournier holds a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry and a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Fordham University. Her research and practice focus has been in urban park and plaza design, with special interest in how landscaped open spaces contribute to the overall health of urban lives. During her time in New York City, she worked on the redesigns of Union Square and Washington Square Parks, as well as the plantings at Lincoln Center, the Broadway Malls, and the Cooper Hewitt Museum, creating acres of gardens in the middle of the city.  For universities she worked on a streetside plaza for Fordham University’s Midtown campus, a series of landscapes and plazas for Rockefeller University, and the plaza and amphitheater for Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s Granoff Center of the Performing Arts at Brown University. Once in Ithaca, she worked on the development of habitat-creating plantings for the City of Ithaca’s Community Beautification Program and became part of the growth at Ithaca Children’s Garden, serving on the Site Committee and eventually as the Facility Manager.

Since joining Whitham Planning and Design, Yamila’s role has included the preparation and coordination of the approvals and permitting process, including Zoning plans and SEQR documentation; project research; the preparation of site analysis diagrams, design development, materials schedules, and specifications; and the preparation of project scopes of work and responses to RFPs. Projects that Yamila has worked on include Cornell University’s Maplewood Redevelopment, East Hill Village, SUNY Cortland, Collegetown Crossing, Student Agencies, canopy Hotel by Hilton, and City Centre.
